After one shaky inning, the Orioles did it again Wednesday night, this time to one of their minor league castoffs who couldn’t crack the big league rotation last year.
Three Baltimore men injured in shootings

Two Baltimore men were injured in a shooting early Wednesday, and a third was hurt in a similar incident late Tuesday, a police spokeswoman said.
In the first incident, on the 2300 block of N. Dukeland St. in Northwest Baltimore, a 27-year-old man was shot in both legs shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, but was able run a block to Gwynns Falls Parkway.
Baltimore police sued after man’s killing

The mother of a man who was shot to death by Baltimore County police has filed a multimillion-dollar federal lawsuit against six officers and the county government.
Gwendolyn Cann claims officers used excessive force when they fired more than 70 bullets at her 25-year-old son, Taevon Cann. He died on Feb. 29, 2008.
Baltimore Gas & Electric’s Smart-Grid Plans Advance

Constellation Energy Group Inc.’s (CEG) Baltimore Gas & Electric said it plans to move forward with an electricity network upgrade that had been the subject of a regulatory tussle.
The utility said the Maryland Public Service Commission approved the project on Friday. A dispute between the utility and the commission had held up the project, imperiling $200 million of federal stimulus money and the 1,650 jobs it was expected to create.
Baltimore County Has Been Added To Restaurant Week

Baltimore’s Summer Restaurant Week officially kicked off Friday on the Morning Edition.
There is a long list of city restaurants participating.
AirTran launches 48-hour sale on Baltimore flights

AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc., on Thursday announced a 48-hour sale for travel to and from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
The fares are available for purchase only through Friday. They are good for travel through Oct. 27 on every day of the week except Sundays.
North Baltimore plastics plant relocating after 30 years

Continental Structural Plastics has a plant in North Baltimore. Today, the company announced to village leaders it plans to move that operation to Indiana.
After some 30 years of operation, under different names and owners, the plant may close its doors for good. North Baltimore Council President Tony Damon has lived in the area most of his life. He explains Continental Structural Plastics is an auto parts supplier, making molded injection parts at the facility.
Showalter Already Making a Difference in Baltimore

It didn’t take long for the hiring of manager Buck Showalter to make an impact. The woebegone Orioles were 32-73 with losses in 14 of their previous 17 games when the Buckaroo replaced interim skipper Juan Samuel.
And bingo.
The Orioles immediately swept three games from the Angels before winning three of four from the White Sox. Suddenly, the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft again appears to be in play.
“I know a lot of people have asked: `Why? Why Baltimore?’” said Showalter, who walked away from an analyst job at ESPN. “You miss the exhilarating feeling of competing for a common cause with a group of men and women.
Orioles recall C Tatum to fortify bench

The Baltimore Orioles have recalled catcher Craig Tatum from Triple-A Norfolk, a move that provides manager Buck Showalter another position player on a thin bench.
Tatum’s addition on Monday gives Baltimore four reserve position players. One of them is Jake Fox, a utility infielder who was the only backup catcher on the team before Tatum’s arrival.
Showalter said the addition of Tatum “is comforting.”
